AMDA Hospital, Damak

 

The referral Health Center was established in Damak (Town in eastern Nepal) in 1992. It  was upgraded to a 50 bedded general hospital named “AMDA-Hospital” in April 1996. Since January 1995, AMDA-Nepal is an implementing partner of UNHCR and provides Secondary Health Care service to about 69% of the total Bhutanese refugees (About 100,000) in Nepal. By this time, AMDA-Hospital is popular hospital in eastern Nepal and provides services not only to the refugees and the local municipality people, but also to the people from remote districts who need to walk even days to reach this hospital.

Since October 1999, a project on "Behavior Change Interventions" for the Prevention and Control of HIV/AIDS/STDs among the Population at High Risk in Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari district has been started. The Project is supported by USAID through Family Health International (FHI).
